Bring Me The Horizon and BABYMETAL discuss their special "collaboration"

Kingslayer (feat. BABYMETAL)

ーSo looking back, you mentioned how long it took to perform the song together because the last time you performed with them at Saitama Super Arena was in 2019, before the song existed. So coming full circle, what did it mean to you to perform this song in Japan with BABYMETAL?

Oli: It was kind of crazy for us anyway, because last time we played in Japan we were supporting BABYMETAL on these huge shows. And we were just starting to feel like we were connecting with the Japanese audience and actually making a significant fan base there but we still felt very new to the country since it felt like one of the hardest places for us to gain a big audience. So those shows we played supporting them were so cool anyway, they’re ones we’ll always remember really well because it was such a good trip. So it was just kind of surreal to come back to Japan and then to be headlining this huge festival and have BABYMETAL do the really cool thing of supporting us even though we're well aware that BABYMETAL are bigger than us in Japan.

We've said it quite a few times, but Japan’s one of our favorite places to play in the world, we love to come to Japan because we love the culture and we love just everything about it. So we found it really crazy that we're now playing one of the biggest shows of our careers in Japan. So it was super surreal, and it just made it a lot more special that this was also the first time we got to perform the song together with BABYMETAL. It's cool that we have a really special relationship with BABYMETAL and I think that just brought it all together. There are so many things that happened on that tour like Hideo Kojima sending us flowers and Yoji Shinkawa, they're both obviously involved in “Metal Gear Solid” and some of my favorite video games and just a lot of cool stuff happened. It really felt like when we left that we’re never going to forget that trip. We've made a super strong connection with Japan and It feels like we're going to be coming back a lot. We have BABYMETAL to thank for that, like massively.

SU-METAL: Some of the people around us discovered Bring Me The Horizon after watching our shows and it makes us really proud. I was bragging to them that “We're very close with this great band!” (Laughs) In terms of “Kingslayer (feat. BABYMETAL),” after we recorded that song together, we went through COVID-19 so we weren't able to perform live. And during that time, because you guys played that song in your shows, we saw live videos where people were singing my part and it made us happy that people could still see that BABYMETAL existed through that song. I am glad that Bring Me says Japan, my hometown, is special to them, and I am also glad that they value their connection with us.

Oli: ARIGATOU (Thank you).

ーI think the choreography of this song was newly added for NEX_FEST. What kind of theme or image did you have in mind?

MOMOMETAL: So the theme for the choreography was basically a “clash of souls,” these two energies coming together and then multiplying that and then giving that to the crowd. So whenever we went on stage we made sure that we gave it our all.
