BABYMETAL Talks Behind The Scenes of “METALI!!”, and New Discoveries as A Trio.

Visiting Many Countries and Establishing Unique Attractions (SU-METAL)

--I also got the impression from the DVD "BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE-" that BABYMETAL's artistic expression in recent years has been further enhanced in terms of visuals, costumes, videos, and stage art for live performances. As a part of the group, do you feel that your sense of beauty has changed?

SU-METAL: We are not particularly conscious about it, but I think there are things we can show in our live performances because there are now three of us. We had been somewhat unstable as "two members and support," but now that we are three, I think we can make it work with the three of us, and that's why we started new activities. I think we had more opportunities to talk seriously about what kind of BABYMETAL we want to be in the future.

MOAMETAL: Yes.

SU-METAL: Also, when we released "THE OTHER ONE" album, the new approach is writing songs inspired by “books”, and maybe a bit more artistic. This time, collaborations with Tom Morello and other rappers also have brought out new possibilities for BABYMETAL.

Up until now, we have been doing what we do because we wanted to be recognized in the metal world, but now we are getting musicians from all genres that are interested in us.

I’m not sure if it is because we became an aspiration for some people, as MOAMETAL said earlier, but we have realized that we can grow more through our live performances and that we can make ourselves more appealing.

This was because people from various countries brought out new dimensions for BABYMETAL. I think it is interesting to see how different aspects of an artist can be opened up by looking at it from different angles. Although we are currently doing our best, we can still turn BABYMETAL into something even more interesting.



MOAMETAL: We have somehow managed to do well with a two-person band up until now, but I think a trio is the golden ratio of BABYMETAL, so now that we have three members, I definitely don't want people to say that we have become worse than before. I think it's what we have to keep showing the best BABYMETAL all the time.

We have developed a sense of what BABYMETAL should be as an artist, now we can say, "this would make it even better". I think that our desire to express ourselves has become stronger on its own.

SU-METAL: Some songs have evolved during the tour.

MOAMETAL: "Monochrome" might have evolved a lot. Also, now that we have three members, we can perform "BABYMETAL DEATH," and I am glad that we can finally introduce ourselves.

--How are you feeling now for the US and European tours in the fall and beyond?

SU-METAL: Thanks to all the fans, we can perform many shows for the US tour, so right now I am looking forward to seeing many people and we like to challenge ourselves to pull it through, but at the same time, I am a bit anxious about whether we will be able to do that many shows.

I think this year is the year to announce "The new BABYMETAL has launched.” to everyone. We have made many great discoveries during the two months of the tour that started in April, and the bond between the three of us has deepened, so I am very excited about what we will be able to accomplish.

--By the way, you and Bring Me will perform together on the Japanese stage at "NEX_FEST 2023" in November, right?

MOAMETAL: It's been a while since the last time I saw Bring Me.

SU-METAL: We hadn't seen each other at all since Covid-19 Pandemic. I wonder how long it has been. We haven't seen each other for at least four years.

MOAMETAL: Seeing them itself makes me already very happy, and it's definitely fun to see so many different artists live,too.

SU-METAL: There's a sense of security in knowing that it's a music festival by Bring Me (laughs). I'm looking forward to it simply because we know them well, not like we've just met each other.

--Lastly, MOMOMETAL, please tell us how you feel now about what you would like to contribute to BABYMETAL in the future.

MOMOMETAL：Because of the long history of BABYMETAL, I think there is an image of BABYMETAL among fans and people who know our name. I think there are still many people who don't know that we are now a three-member lineup, so I would like to perform on various stages at our tours and festivals so that the current BABYMETAL will be known around the world.And I would like to spread the music of BABYMETAL more and more throughout the world.

We would also like to continue to challenge ourselves in various ways and become a presence that our fans can enjoy as well. Thank you for your continued support.

--Thank you very much...are you (SU-METAL and MOAMETAL) also inspired by MOMOMETAL's enthusiasm?

SU-METAL: Yes, we are. Totally.

MOAMETAL: Yes, that's true. I'm always nervous in interviews like this (laughs). I certainly feel a lot of fresh air and it's a feeling I had almost forgotten.
